I'm a reasonably late bloomer in the art of crochet.
I always wanted to make granny squares but try as she might, my poor Grandma couldn't make my small child-brain process what I now see as simple instructions.
Eventually a friend managed to give me some guidance and suddenly I could chain like the best of 'em. That was it though, chain, chain, chain.
I then found myself on YouTube where granny squares then became so simple to master because you could pause the video every two seconds without annoying a real person. A new hobby was unlocked!
Like many fools embarking on new hobbies, I went out and bought all the cheap yarn I saw thinking 'wow, what a bargain' and lots of not-so-cheap yarn because 'wow, so pretty' and before I knew it my stash was out of control. There were no plans for the yarns I bought as I was buying them. If I could go back in time and talk to my younger (but still old-ish) self, I would tell her 'DON'T KEEP BUYING YARN UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO MAKE WITH IT!'
For a long time I obsessed with shawls and blankets but there are only so many that a person can use so I started attending the odd local craft fair to try and sell them, I've sold a few, not enough to retire though.
Towards the end of last year, I developed a new obsession, tea cosies. I made one for my work teapot and then a friend asked if I would make a couple for his wife as a Christmas gift. They were both very pleased with them, I winged them both having no idea what I was doing and just by luck, they came together at the end. Foolishly, while winging them, I didn't write down what I did as I went. A lesson now learned and now I do so I can recreate similar ones a lot more easily instead of constantly trying them on the pot to decided if I need another row or not.
Most cosies are made up as I go without a pattern, the odd one might be and I would usually credit any designers/pattern makers in my listings so you can have a go yourself if you prefer.
If you'd rather just buy ready made, do get in touch. Maybe you'd like a specific design/style that you can't see on this page? I'll have a go. The finished item would still end up on Folksy to give you the expected purchase protection.
Crochet is my craft but knitting has the best available patterns hence why I'm making mine up as I go along. I will learn how to knit properly at some point because my Pinterest board is chock-full of knitted cosies that I couldn't possibly manage to create in my lifetime, even if I lived to 103! Note: due to previously mentioned yarn hoarding, even if I did live to 103 and knit/crocheted every day from now until then, my yarn stash would still outlive me!
Please buy something, just so I can tell my husband I am actually whittling down the yarn mountain.
