I've recently got into making tea cosies, started with one for myself for my work teapot, made a couple on request for a friend, before I knew it, I was hooked (literally – crochet hook, geddit??)
I was searching everywhere for a pattern to make a beehive but they only seem to be available to knitters, a skill I don’t have so I just winged it (ooh, get me. I just made another funny….. sorry, I’ll stick to crocheting).

Novelty tea cosy crocheted in acrylic Aran yarn, this beehive styled cosy with 5 little bees is a perfect gift for someone who loves tea and loves bees!
I made it to fit a medium sized 4-6 cup teapot, Price & Kensington brand to be specific but does also fit the other generic teapots in my large arsenal of spouty ceramics I use as models for my woolly wonders.
There is a hole at the front for the spout and a flap at the back with button closure to allow for the handle
Will it keep your tea hot?
I’ve used a slightly thicker yarn (Aran) for this cosy which will give better insulation than my other DK ones but still not as hot as a lined, insulated one. If you are serving the full pot within 40-50mins, you should be just fine.
It can be washed by hand. For my own personal ones I only spot wash the tea stains under a tap with a dot of washing-up liquid. Never had a problem doing that.
