About Wheretheskylarksings

Wheretheskylarksings

Printmaking inspired by the wild.

I'm Juliet, I work from my rural studio near Kelso in the Scottish Borders - a place where the seasons are marked by the presence of birds - the first skylarks rising in February, the joy of the swallows swooping over the rivers in late April, the skeins of geese that dominate the skies and decorate the stubby fields from September to spring, each emoting a sense of recognition, the cycle of the seasons and a reminder of our "place in the family of things" (Mary Oliver - Wild Geese)..

I work predominantly with linocut, whilst experimenting with a range of printmaking methods including drypoint and monoprint, exploring print as a starting point for multi-media work.

My inspiration comes from the wildlife, most often birds, that I observe in daily life.

In striving to capture the unique character and beauty of each individual I aim to create intimate, sensitive portraits.
