About The Old Burrow

The Old Burrow

Magical watercolours from the landscape of fairy tales.

Welcome to The Old Burrow, a quiet corner where stories grow wild and pictures are portals.

I'm Catkin, an illustrator who works with watercolour, ink and memory - shaping small timeless scenes that whisper of hedgerow paths, starlit thresholds, and the quiet between worlds.

Inspired by classic storybook illustrations and the deep magic of the natural world, I create work that invites both children and grown-ups into landscapes of wonder. Each piece is a glimpse into the land of The Old Burrow - a place not marked on any map but found by those who need it.

The Old Burrow lies just beyond the mist, a place where creatures walk upright and the landscape listens. Each painting invites you into a world where stories linger in the hedgerows and wonder has not been forgotten.

This is part of a quiet tradition I call 'Whisperwork' - a way of painting that begins with listening. It doesn't seek to shout, but to offer companionship to those who find meaning in stillness and small, enchanted things. Each piece is a gentle threshold for those drawn to hidden places of the world and imagination.

I live and work in the hills of southern Scotland, near a ring of beeches and a river that keeps its own secrets. The Old Burrow is my home between the worlds, and I'm so glad you've found your way here.

Much love

Catkin
