About Simon Lilly Art

Simon Lilly Art

Art and artefacts inspired by myth, magic and landscape.

I live in the heart of Wales, inspired by the deep past of myth and the magic of landscape. Working in a variety of materials, I am greatly influenced by ancient words and ancient art. I studied Fine Art at The University of Edinburgh and at Edinburgh College of Art a long time ago. These days my work finds expression in photographic renderings of landscape, emphasising the mysterious within the world. I hand-carve sculptural bowls and other small wooden talismanic items which are decorated with meaningful pattern and texts to create magical and meditative tools. I also work with silver and other metals, cutting, bashing, soothing, more bashing, to bring out interesting pieces that often reflect aspects of ancient Celtic Art. I do not speak very much Welsh, but am very keen to promote the beauty and harmony of the language and of the great Welsh bardic tradition. When I am not drawing out the eloquence of Taliesin, I am using extracts from my own poetic works. Whatever medium I use, it is the deep past and the deep world that I am reaching for. I am owned by a patient and loving wife, and a not so patient, loving cat.
