About Roses Workshop

Roses Workshop

Handmade from British Wool, Felted Wool, and Harris Tweed

My passion is for British wool in many forms, not only knitted but also including the world renowned hand-woven Harris tweed. I also turn fluffy wool into solid felt. I design and create unusual fashion and home accessories from my workshop in Lancashire, England, and more recently my own weaving from a barn in Scotland.

As a child in the hills of southern Scotland I was surrounded by sheep farms, set against the pastel heathers and brackens of the higher peaks. The traditional skills of spinning, weaving and knitting wool, as well as sewing and embroidery, were passed on to me by older generations. As I grew older, my craft continued as a hobby. Roses Workshop was born of recession, giving the impetus to lift that hobby into a business. Starting out with just a few knitted hats for friends, I now have a range of fashion, home, and gift items, all still handmade personally. The name was inspired by my garden full of roses that I can see from my workshop window.

As well as selling my handmade items online, I also attend various fairs, festivals and exhibitions. This is a great way to meet the artists and crafts-people, and support other British businesses.

An unexpected gain from the months of "covid lockdown" at my father's cottage, was that we had the time to restore the four-shaft floor loom that had been "resting" in the barn. Some of my own hand-woven items will be added to my shop soon.
