Wearable art jewellery that is as unique as you are, handmade by Kate in Devon.

Born into a creative family I grew up with colour and texture all around me. I remember talking about light with my Dad, a theatre lightning designer, and exploring crafts with my Mum, a theatre wardrobe mistress, from an early age. My lifelong passions for horses and all animals, history and archaeology, and the wild outdoors have led me on many great adventures around the world, through various types of education and careers until I now find myself in the beautiful south west of England where I can enjoy being outside with my family and friends, both 2 and 4 legged, somewhere between the wilds of Dartmoor and the splendour of the north Cornwall and Devon coasts.

I have owned and run KateE Crafts (formerly The Bead Cellar) since 2009, a boutique craft supplies retail business initially specialising in beading and beaded jewellery making. We now also offer fibrecraft supplies for felting and spinning as well as regular beading and felting workshops. I have a spacious workshop on-site where I design and create my jewellery, which is also available direct from my shop. I also really enjoy attending craft fairs as I get to engage with visitors and hand-made enthusiasts, and share the stories behind my work.

Over the past few years I have been developing my mixed media artwork and have exhibited, and sold, work in several galleries in Devon. Along the way I realised that some of these techniques might make beautiful jewellery! And since I have beads and findings on hand it was a natural step to create the wearable art jewellery that you find here, in my Folksy shop. I use acrylic paints and a gelli printing plate to create the designs, each of which are mono-prints (meaning that they are unique and not repeatable). I pick the perfect placement for each item from a large sheet and attached the artwork to wooden bases, which keeps the jewellery very lightweight to wear. Each piece is finished off with semi-precious gemstones or Czech glass beads and .925 sterling silver findings.
