About Kanyini Designs

Kanyini Designs

Fun boho crochet and textiles accessories with the odd elegant design thrown in. Kanyini Designs.

Often held hostage by my beautiful calico cat Bell, I will be found either out walking or running, or at home working on a crochet or textile design for you. I created Kanyini Designs to complement my work with Kanyini Community, a community education organisation working with refugees, socially isolated and hard to reach people engaging them in education, wellbeing activities, and support and guidance into employment/self employment. I've always used crafts as a way of providing myself with downtime, but having recently moved to set up my own company, decided to take crafting to the next level and begin selling.

I believe crafts bring people together, they provide the opportunity for mindfulness and are an amazing way to use materials in a sustainable way. I make mostly earrings, bags, and hats that I will gradually be uploading, but you will see other items pop up from time to time. I like to make items that are a bit different, a bit playful, and show my love of colour and texture.

I began crocheting and sewing as a little girl, surrounded by craft equipment and materials left by my mother. The opportunity to explore these was unavailable to me at the time, as I grew up in remote New South Wales, Australia, but since moving to the UK and having children, now long since grown up, I've rediscovered my craft fix and enjoy learning new techniques. I prefer textile crafts, these speak to me through texture, pattern and history, and I love upcycling old clothes to be as sustainable as possible.
