Nature and wildlife photography to feed your soul

I'm Julie Wilkinson, a writer and photographer based in West Yorkshire. I'm inspired by nature and wildlife both in the wild Yorkshire landscape on my doorstep and further afield - and I use my images to create prints, greetings cards, postcards, canvases and other beautiful things.

I first took up wildlife photography during the Covid pandemic in 2020, when I discovered for the first time the rich diversity of animals and birds in my village and began to observe their relationship with the landscape I have known and loved since I was a child. Spending time in nature, capturing the barn owls, curlews and lapwings, hares and deer, on the Yorkshire moors fed my soul - and as I shared my images with friends and family, I realised it fed their souls too.

Over time, I have taken my photography further afield, to Northumberland and Scotland, Italy and Iceland - and wherever I go, whether photographing characterful puffins and acrobatic terns or the magic of the vast night sky beneath the aurora, the impact is the same - in the small moments and in the big, our world is beautiful and we must recognise our dependence on it.

I always aim to tread lightly on the world, to follow good wildlife photography ethics, and to respect my subjects. I work with local printing firms to produce my products and try to be as eco-friendly as possible in my practice.

Most of all, I hope my work helps others to connect with nature too, to see the beauty in the world and find the magic on your own doorstep, wherever that might be.
