About Art for Wellness Studio

Art for Wellness Studio

From a simple branch to an exquisite work of art—found nowhere else in the world

Hello, lovely people, i'm Jo, woodturner, artist, storyteller, and Yorkshire lass.

My shop is 'Art for Wellness Studio'. This is my happy place.

I craft one-of-a-kind pieces not found anywhere else in the world using natural wood. I turn or carve the wood, and then I embellish.

Nature turned by hand. Art made with heart.

Inspired by my husband, dad, my uncle Roger, and a whole life’s worth of grit and heart, every creation is made with love—and just a little bit of wild.

I’ve always been a maker/painter. Even as a tiny kid (still tiny now—5ft and proud!), I had my little toolset and followed my dad everywhere. He was a brickie who could turn his hands to anything—from painting to puttying windows (yes, with a bit of spit to soften it… highly frowned upon as a child, unless you were “working” lol!).

He helped build the house we once lived in. I can still smell the red diesel from the dumper truck rides we had.

My journey hasn’t been without bumps. I’ve worked in road safety since 2019 self employed Driver Trainer for a few years working for a Council.

After facing a difficult and unsupportive environment, I had to take time out due to stress and anxiety. One day, I even put a sign up in the office that said “I AM NOT STUPID”—a reminder to myself and others that I mattered.

Whilst not working, I found learning woodturning with Uncle Roger in his workshop/garage, filled me with joy.

Now, full circle, I’m back living just around the corner from where it all began—creating again from my garage/workshop surrounded by the smell of wood and shaving all around me, thanks to my lovely husband Paul (we’ve been together since I was 15).
One Christmas, he surprised me with a woodturning lathe. That reignited the creative fire I’d put aside while raising our children.

Today, I embellish my wooden creations with pyrography, inks, watercolours, acrylics, sand, pebbles—you name it. Often, I have a design in my head, but the piece takes on a life of its own. I love being at home, it's my favourite place. Spending time with my best mate and surrounded by our lovely whippets, Eric and Ernie.

Creating something from nature and turning it into meaningful art for others brings me pure joy.

From a branch to an exquisite piece of art

If you have an idea you’d love me to explore, I’m all ears.
Love, Jo
