I’m Ella, a designer and crafter from Somerset who has recently made the move to Poole in Dorset!
I spent my childhood constantly sewing, making and drawing. I loved to draw and would spend all my spare time with a pencil or paintbrush in my hand. After school, I went on to study Art & Design at college, specialising in fine art for my final project. I created a costume, sketchbook and miniature doll based around the lives of the Flax Picking Women during WW1. It was during this project that I decided what degree to take at University. I have always been interested in history, fashion, film and design, and therefore Costume seemed the ideal route to take.
After college, I started my degree in Costume & Performance Design at the Arts University in Bournemouth. Throughout my three years, I specialised in costume design and illustration. During my second year at university I won a competition called Costume for Change. The costume I designed intended to be an interactive, educational piece, celebrating sustainability and the use of recycled and natural materials. The dress was created for a performance at Inside Out Dorset in 2021.
Since graduating, I began building my own creative business making and selling ‘Artist Dolls’ and fabric creations. My love of telling a story through costume, incorporating fine detail and design, embarked me on this exciting journey.
Due to the intricate stitching and fine details, the textile dolls are not suitable for children.
