A couple of years ago I designed a Christmas card to sell in a friend’s bricks and mortar shop. I had some left over so put them online and they started flying off the (virtual) shelves. This renewed my enthusiasm, so I started looking at new ways to channel my creativity. I used a couple of my photos as designs for jigsaws, they seemed to go down well, too.
My art and design had always been the standard printed variety, used for wall art, jigsaws and greetings cards. My daughter has a shop that sells 3D printed earrings, which sparked my interest for making my own items, so I bought my own printer. I started with mid-century style drop earrings and began to experiment using the printer as a basis for new designs.
The next part of the story is making my own coasters, keyrings. and other similar items. I wanted to do this myself, rather than using a print-on-demand supplier as I have more control over what I make and also the time it takes to get the items to customers.
