About Cut The Scrap

Cut The Scrap

Kids fashion reworked from discarded adult clothing

I’m Vic, a sewist making new clothes of out pre-loved garments and fabrics at my home in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Cut The Scrap is my shop selling handmade, on-trend kids fashion reworked from discarded adult clothing.

I’ve been sewing for nearly 20 years, and have always been interested in upcycling and re-using textiles. However, in more recent years I’ve moved to almost exclusively sewing with second hand textiles and off cuts because I have been shocked at the amount of textiles going to landfill and aghast at the resources, exploitation and waste that are expended in the fashion industry. I also enjoy the challenges that sewing with second hand textiles presents to push my creativity and ideas.

Being a Mum led me to the idea of making kids clothes out of old adult clothing. My designs give you the chance to buy new, completely unique and on-trend clothes for your little ones that are gender-neutral, handmade, and have a low impact on the environment. By cutting up unwanted, stained and damaged textiles I can make use of original features and create colour-blocked, mix and match designs. Each piece is unique by nature. You can choose a piece that fits your kid’s personality and your own ethics. You could even use the clothes to start a conversation with your family about environmental impact!

My jumpers currently for sale are a baggy / oversized fit that I hope would last a child a long time as they grow, and so the sizing is a guide only. Do check the measurements as well for a clearer understanding of sizes.

I donate £2 from each garment sold to Labour Behind the Label, who campaign for garment worker's rights world-wide.
