I have been drawing and designing for years and I have always wanted to do something more with my creativity. I live in London and originally I come from up North! I particularly like visiting historic places in the UK and a lot of my designs are inspired by the photographic collection that I have been building over the last 17 years.
For the wooden brooches and magnets I do some observational drawings and use Procreate to complete them. Sometimes I just enjoy doing a pattern and adapting it. The end result can look completely different to what initially caught my eye. Next I print out the designs I like onto wooden transfer paper and iron them onto round wooden bases which I have hand painted in a colour which compliments or emphasises the design. All this takes many hours as I then try out different patches of materials in order to present a unique gift for you which is attached to recyclable brown card.
I have tried to use as much recyclable materials as possible and reduced the glues etc that part of the process. It took me a lot of experimentation with resin, glass cabochons, ribbon and different wooden disks to make something that looked good and more environmentally friendly.
The originals are mainly drawn first in pencil, finished with watercolour and some are completed on Procreate. I next print out the design onto wood transfer paper and iron it onto a blank greeting card base. I have designed it so it fits an internal framed aperture of 12.7cm x 12. 7 square and an external square frame of 16 x 16 cm.
I hope you can see or feel the joy that these patterns bring. This is how - this year - I represent the world- it is to escape but also show my appreciation for what we have.
