In The Making - Aprons reconsiders the ancient garments traditionally associated with the practice of crafts, trades and domestic work to produce distinctive workwear designs for the contemporary maker.
I design and make highly specialised workwear aprons - worn by potters, printmakers, jewellery designers, fine artists, glassware makers, sculptors, weavers, art restorers, artisan businesses and gardeners. My range develops through design collaborations, observing creative practices and devising practical features for specific workwear needs, while providing easy-to-wear comfort and a professional appearance. Everything I make is precisely measured and carefully sewn, constructed for strength and longevity – resulting in a quality of finish not possible in mass production.
It all started with a denim cross back apron I made to wear whilst doing my own artwork, it was so comfortable I found myself wearing it all day long. I began to sell these aprons in my Folksy shop and started to get enquiries from artists, potters and makers about customisations,, eventually I was entirely focused on these specialist aprons and changed my shop name to In The Making – Aprons.
In recent years I’ve also been making bags using the small remnants leftover from making aprons – it’s very satisfying to make something really useful and attractive whilst preventing textile waste. This range was named ‘Boro Collection’ inspired by the Japanese practice of Boro preserving and repurposing fabrics. I'm amazed at the different uses customers find for their bags it’s great to hear their stories.

I already had a lovely bespoke apron for my silversmithing, but I've used that one a decade and it's got a bit baggy.
This new one is fabulous. It's really sturdy yet soft denim and 100 denim, so it won't stretch nor be a fire risk The pocket has already rescued a gemstone for me.
It arrived promptly, was beautifully packaged and I'm delighted with it.
Thank you Lisa.

Sturdy beautifully made bag which will last for years. Sized to perfection. It's an absolute treat to receive and unwrap a purchase from this seller. The packaging components will all be reused in Christmas decoration making. Very many thanks!
