About UNEARTHED

UNEARTHED

Earth conscious artist, illustrator &Tutor that works with sustainable natural Pigments and Inks, based in Devon.

Hi, and welcome to my world of natural colour, Earth Pigments and Inks. I am semi-retired Illustrator and Art tutor living in North Devon on the edge of Exmoor and not far from the coast. My interest in Natural pigments arose when I discovered the harmful chemicals in shop bought paints. Now I forage for Ochre, Sienna's and Umber's, in clay' rock and mud, by rivers and by the sea, in Autumn I go a Walnut tree hunting, for the husks can make a warm brown ink. In Spring its time to forage Oak galls for an ancient ink recipe, Im currently messing about with Beetroot and copper!! I can offer a range of earth colours from near and far, free from fillers , the inks are preserved with a whole clove in each bottle. Unearthed pigments are elemental components of colour from sustainable resources. After processing to a fine powder the pigment is ready to be mixed with a binder , suitable for Oil Watercolour acrylic and Tempera. I will be experimenting with pastels as my next challenge and studying cave paintings, I might even find a cave !!
