Welcome to Jolie Blon Art! I create unique nature inspired clay jewellery and sculptural pieces from a small paste table in the corner of my bedroom! Despite residing in a mostly concrete cultural wasteland of a city, I still manage to find little glimpses of inspiration in my local neighbourhood - I just have to look harder! You'll often find me taking pictures of moss in cracked pavements while on my daily walk with my beloved dog. Who needs bespoke studios, cottage residences, rolling countryside or beach views eh?!
Most ceramicists scorn air dry clay as little more than playdough but clay is clay folks! The only real difference between kiln clay and air dry clay is that one hardens in a kiln and the other hardens in the air. ADC can be a little more delicate but I always use a 'secret mix' to coat each of my pieces to reinforce them before painting! Actually, as an air dry clay artist, my work is far more labour intensive as every item I make is entirely handmade and entirely hand painted. As a result, I can't mass produce/replicate my work like most ceramicists so my pieces are always a labour of love and absolutely unique.
I have struggled with progressive degenerative disc disease in my back for many years and eventually had to give up paid employment. However, I have always been a creative person and in 2016 I started my creative journey mostly focusing on jewellery. Over the subsequent years I have worked with many mediums including polymer clay, acrylic pouring, mixed media, wire wrapping, and Japanese inks but always find myself returning to my favourite - clay. In 2025 I was diagnosed with DDD is my neck so life continues to be a challenge but I refuse to give up!
