Sea Jewels
Nellies Art£3.00
I have fond memories of drawing birds and animals at the kitchen table with my artist Grandmother from a very early age. This love of art and nature has never gone away and I keep many sketchbooks, which are often used to help create my finished paintings.
Exploring colour, light and texture, I take my inspiration from the natural beauty of land and sea, from the Test Valley and the New Forest, to the South Coast and further afield to the Mediterranean.
My technique involves the layering of leftover coloured tissue, patterned wrapping paper and magazine cuttings, creating form and texture. From this I develop a painting by applying inks and acrylics to create woodland or coastal scenes in an illustrative style, quite often with the addition of quirky wildlife.
I studied graphic design, graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design. Whilst I still call myself a graphic designer, I enjoy the contrast of producing art in a more free, expressive way.
