How It Started
I have always been a maker, and started my adult life as a costume designer. Goldcrest Crafts began as a way to creatively upcycle small tables with original mosaic designs and this has now evolved to encompass the various types of millefiori (which I really love!) usually in the form of unique resin and/or mosaic jewellery.
Materials
I find that eco-resin is great at enhancing the vibrant colours of the various types of glass and bio-glitter that I use in my makes. It is also very light and durable which is great when the look of glass is desired, but the heaviness and fragility is not, for example in earring designs.
I use hypoallergenic stainless steel for earring wires, posts and hoops and for pendant chains, and Turkish silver for most of my pendants themselves.
I source millefiori from both Murano, Italy, where it has been made in the same way for 100s of years, and also from talented glassworkers in the UK and beyond. Millefiori means 'thousand flowers' in Italian, although some of the designs are more abstract and geometric. They are all unique and gorgeous!
Where I Work and What Inspires Me
I work at home in the South Downs and am inspired by the natural world in its myriad colours and forms - from sea to sky to foliage and beyond! I am kept company by my dog, Bracken and my cat, Ivy. They help me keep track of time by appearing together and staring at me fixedly at 4pm (food time)
