‘Ceramics for Mavericks’

In a nutshelll:Self taught ceramicist who discovered clay whilst digging footings for an extension thirty five years ago.Went to Night school then applied for Art College at the age of 28.Offered a job in local pottery the same year. What do I do?Joined the pottery.Needed to pay bills .Learnt all aspects of modelling, mould making, slip casting and production of an original clay design.Left Pottery 6 years later and became self employed potter.Converted garage is my workshop.Still self employed full time potter 28 years later.Big music fan and gig goer since ‘77.Used to have bleached spiky hair-now no hair( it’s the age )Work has been sold to collectors worldwide.Exhibited in America and London.commissioned by Theatres, classic car and bike clubs, musicians and sportstars.Astronomy and Rock Music are big inspirations throughout my work.Still gives me a buzz every time I make a sale.I have two black cats -Shadow and Prince and an all black Fender jazz bass special.I like to make a noise with strings as well as make shapes with clay.Love Rodin sculptures and Carravaggios paintwork.Ultimately would love to do a lifesize clay sculpture when I retire and the pressure of selling and surviving as an artist is no longer of great importance.Forever learning life.Perfection doesn’t exist but it’s a positive fuel.
