About elenasteersillustration

Artist, illustrator, storyteller and lover of all things vintage.

Hello, I’m Elena, a collage artist and illustrator working from my home studio in Exeter, Devon. My work evokes nostalgia, memory, and storytelling; I’m drawn to the fragments of the past that still speak to us today.

Each piece I create begins with a moment of discovery: a scrap of vintage paper, a forgotten photograph, or a fragment of antique lace found while rummaging through thrift shops and antique stores. I love the idea that all the pieces I use have already lived a life. When I bring these elements together, I’m not just making art, I’m weaving and layer fragments of old stories old and giving these found treasures a chance to tell a new story.

Creating is, for me, both an act of connection and reflection. It’s a way to express something of myself, to be seen and understood in this busy world. It’s also a gentle, grounding practice; a place of peace where I can escape the noise of everyday life and simply create.

When I’m not in my studio, you’ll often find me out treasure hunting for new materials or wandering through nature and historic streets, soaking up textures, colours, and the quiet stories held within old buildings. Also, the tea and cake to be found in some of those buildings!

Through my vintage collages, I hope to share a sense of calm and curiosity, and to invite my audience to experience the quiet beauty that can exist in things once discarded and left behind.
