Welcome to Dew Drop Crafts – My Story
Hello, I'm Julie Maginn, and I live on the beautiful Isle of Wight, just off the south coast of England. I've always had a love for art and craft, but it wasn’t until I was made redundant in 2010 that I took the leap and turned my card-making hobby into a full-time creative business.
I share my home with my lovely parents and our slightly bonkers (but beloved!) border collie, Jax. I’m just a little bit obsessed with the colour purple, and I collect dragons, unicorns, and mushrooms. I adore Christmas and Halloween, I’m inspired by the sea and dramatic stormy skies, and I love painting in every form. Oh — and I have a very dodgy back that keeps things interesting!
A Little About Dew Drop Crafts
My business began in July 2010 with handmade cards sold at stalls and local shops. From there, I branched out into paper crafts like bookmarks and calendars. One day, while watching a craft channel, I discovered a technique called Paint Fusion — a blend of rubber stamping and acrylic folk art painting — and I was instantly hooked.
This opened the door to a whole new world of hand-painted home décor: candles, canvases, photo frames… Then, with my dad’s help and his trusty electric fretsaw, we began designing and cutting our own MDF shapes — including our very popular Isle of Wight clocks and Christmas decorations, which I’ve now painted in their thousands!
Over time, my handmade cards took a back seat as I moved into selling home décor pieces at Island outlets, craft fairs, and eventually online through Etsy, my website, and regular Facebook markets.
In recent years, my heart has truly found its home in the world of fantasy. I started with magical toadstools, and now I focus on creating detailed fantasy fairy cottages, Enchanted Globes, and whimsical landscapes. This is where my passion lies, and it’s the direction I’m most excited to grow.
