Thoughtful gifts are all the more special and while the appearance of jewellery is hugely important it often needs to be practical too. My Mum was partially sighted and loved jewellery she could feel as well as see so now I often make pieces with texture and contrast. I also try to keep a few metal-fee items, like glass pendants on cords, and items that are simple to fasten.
Making jewellery started when I wanted a blue & gold beaded necklace. Couldn't find one to buy so I bought some beads and made MY necklace. People liked it, word got around & I made more. My first real commission was when a friend asked me to design & make a necklace to match her beautiful Ghanaian national dress. I made her two to choose from - & she bought both!
When I heard about "fine silver" I had to try it. I love the versatility and use it with another favourite, sea shells. I tried fusing glass in a "microwave kiln" - but it was never going to be big enough! So I treated myself to an electric kiln. It has seen lots of use & proved addictively successful - but there still isn't quite enough room...…
When I moved from London to North Devon I found out quite how much craft "stuff" I have. And I'm enjoying working my way through it. There's still lots to come, so thank you for looking & do please come back.
