Natural gemstones are totally unique and eye-catching. They are a beautiful accessory to own and a statement that tells the world about you and your personality. Whether bold or bright, subtle or dainty. A designer, natural gemstones piece of jewellery is sure to add opulence to your wardrobe collection for years to follow.
Demelza Designs jewellery is registered with the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) and abides by their professional customer charter. They are the U.K’s trusted leading authority within the jewellery retail and trade sector and recognised worldwide. The term 'precious'and 'semi-precious' for gemstones is no longer recognised by the GIA as best practice. This is because many semi precious gemstones are now more expensive than precious gemstones. Leading jewellery retailers are following best practice and no longer using these terms to describe genuine gemstone jewellery. However, many are still using both terms to describe their gemstone jewellery.
Man made turquoise (reconstituted) is disclosed at the point of sale and not miss sold as genuine turquoise! Genuine turquoise is described as 'stabalised' and recognised by the GIA as a genuine gemstone mineral. It is considerably more expensive in all grades within the jewellery trade worldwide. Rule of thumb if its cheap it's not genuine turquoise, buyers please be aware.
The majority of all gemstones have had some form of treatment to enhance their appearance. For trusted information the GIA provides a good educational list of treatments used within the jewellery industry worldwide on their website.
Gemstone beads used are carefully selected for their cut, colour, clarity, rarity and availability. Each gemstone piece of jewellery is therefore individually priced accordingly.
All gemstone strands used are tested for their authenticity by qualified GIA gemstone gemologists by Demelza Designs gemstone suppliers.
Demelza Designs prides itself to produce quality hand crafted jewellery for all budget ranges with each piece receiving the same attention to detail during its design and making processes.
All gemstones are purchased from a trusted British business registered with the NAJ. Their gemstone cutting houses are based in Jaipur, India.
Only high quality freshwater pearls including Baroque pearls are used based on their natural even nacra formation, shape and size. Pearl strands can be in the hundreds of pounds, so comparing to cheaper pearl jewellery should be carefully considered before purchasing as the quality will not be the same! The best quality freshwater pearls are 'edison'.
Earring findings are compliant with EN1811:201 standards including nickel free. Findings are purchased from trusted suppliers registered with the NAJ wherever possible.

Demelza Designs is a small business based in Cornwall. All jewellery and knitwear is designed and hand created by the founder Gail who is inspired by the cornish north coast where she has lived for over thirty five years.
At the age of 12 years old my passion for fashion began by starting to make my own clothes and knitting my school cardigans. At the age of 17 years old I started to study fashion design at Oxford prior to moving on to attend the prestigious former 'Medway College of Design' in Kent.
In 1991 I opened my own baby and toddlers clothing boutique in Cornwall designing, making and selling my own designer childens clothing and knitwear direct to the general public for 14 years. My work was purchased by people from around the world as gifts for either their own children, grandchildren, their immediate family or for their friends children. During this period I had been featured in a childrens BBC programme and interviewed on BBC Radio Cornwall along with endless articles written about my work from my little studio boutique based in Travaunance Cove, St. Agnes.
In 2003 I decided to have a complete career change into health care attending full time studies at Portsmouth University. Due to becoming physically disabled I could no longer work on the front line in the main buzzy operating theatres so I returned back to designing and creating beautiful things on a much smaller scale within the limitations of my disability.
The vast majority of my work is a 'one off ' because I do not like creating the exact same piece of work twice! I am a stickler for perfection and I enjoy doing what I love; being creative for those seeking total individuality and quality.
