About Chris Stone Artist

Chris Stone Artist

Artist celebrating Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall

CHRIS STONE BA (Hons)

Plymouth based artist, creating original, mainly smaller scale landscape paintings, mostly inspired by Devon and Cornwall. I find the more mundane location, ignored or bypassed by our visitors equally as inspiring as the more popular tourist destinations.

I am intrigued by the relationship between painting and photography. In celebrating my subjects, I often draw inspiration from the well used tourist device of the picture postcard: a souvenir that captures a memory or a feeling; a slightly over-egged version of reality.

My work features places I know well, galvanised by personal memory, sketches and photographs taken at the locations. I have utilised a variety of media, including acrylic, gouache, watercolour and ink. I enjoy producing more traditional works in watercolour on paper, whilst also experimenting with different surfaces, like Yupo and photographic papers.

My work is produced in my studio space at home, shared with my husband Andy.

I’m pleased that my art has sold throughout Britain and beyond, hopefully providing a memento of a much loved place or experience.

I am always keen to consolidate and expand my practice. I am pleased to have achieved a first class BA (Hons) degree in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking from Arts University Plymouth in 2024. I was also awarded the Fresh Talent Prize in 2024 by the Brownston Gallery in Devon, who have awarded me an exhibition later in 2025.

I sell mostly online but I also sell at local fairs and from time to time, in local galleries and retailers.

Items over £10 in value are dispatched first class tracked for delivery. All other items are sent by regular first class post. I aim to dispatch by next working day. Paintings are unframed. Mount options are available on some paintings and are included on many of my smaller works
