Welcome to my online Folksy shop and thank you for popping by.
INTERNATIONAL POST - I'm in the process of updating postage for the US and have temporarily removed it from my listings whilst I recalculate the prices to include the new taxes and handling fees which have to be paid prior to my items entering the US. If you are based in the US and wish to purchase something please send me a message and I will happily send you a quote and add the postage and charges back on to the item.
Due to new regulations sadly I can no longer post to Europe or NI.
If I overcharge on International postage rates I will refund the excess.
Thank you, Debby

I'm Debby, I live in a small village on the East Coast of Yorkshire and work full time as a Bear & Textile Artist.
I love the intricate details found in Victorian and Heritage styles and this influence can be seen throughout my work, hand embroidery is my passion and I love to create one off pieces that will be treasured for many years to come.
I have City & Guilds 'Design for Fashion' 1 & 11 which required high levels of accuracy whilst designing and creating haute couture standard garments, other than that I am self taught through many years of trial and error.
I began making bears to sell in 2014 whilst working locally for a steel fabrication company, in September of the same year my first spine operation failed and I was forced to retire from the clerical position I had enjoyed for 14 years. Not ready to accept retirement I began creating, firstly as 'Designs by Debby' then in 2015 I joined Facebook, renamed to Bearlescent (purely a made up name) and threw myself into full time designing and bear making.
November 2025, over 700 bears and dozens of dolls later, not forgetting the hundreds of smaller hand embroidered gifts including pincushions, woodland animals and letterbox gifts and I've come full circle again and currently planning my return to full time bear and doll making (plus a few hearts perhaps) for 2026. I thoroughly enjoy making the smaller embroidered items but for now it's time to move on with my main creations again and hopefully take them to a higher level.
A few things you might not know about me, I love music, my bears are never born to peace and quiet, they start life rocking, my house is rarely free of music mainly goth, metal or Rock, I play it loud and sing continuously. We love live music, regularly attend concerts and go to Whitby Goth Festival twice a year. I like alternative styles, black is my happy colour and enjoy tarot, oracle, pendulums, palmistry and everything else divination. I'm a mum to two lovely grown up children and a grandma to one special little boy.

A very high standard of craftsmanship. The bear is beautifully detailed from an excellent pattern. Lovely matching knitwear, and wonderfully and personally packaged.
