About AmboynaMan

AmboynaMan

I make beautiful one of a kind decorative bowls and trinket boxes for keeping your treasured items.

My background is in engineering but now that I am retired, I am loving having the time to pursue my passions including playing guitar, vegetable growing, baking sourdough bread and woodturning.
I love making small decorative bowls out of contrasting woods which showcase some of the wonderful colours and textures that are naturally in the materials. I give them simple shapes because when the wood is so attractive you need to just keep things simple. Each one is original and unique and make great gifts.
One of the challenges woodturners like is to make boxes on the lathe and I have been enjoying this for many years. The challenge is in getting the perfect fit between lid and base. Frequently I will incorporate a contrasting inlay of wood in the lid to show off its colour and grain patterns.
Lastly, for drummers I make Bahrain tippers or Beaters, specialist drumsticks basically in a range of sizes and styles. I got into this by accident when a drummer friend of mine asked me to make hime one and I've carried on ever since.
